As research was a new area to the Faculty of Commerce some guidance was sought from the potential users about the direction that research should take. The main choice was between applied/practical research or academic/pure research. The market survey also asked into what areas potential users thought Nelson Polytechnic should be researching, who should benefit from the research, where the results should be published and if they considered that any specific or general projects needed to be done.

Results supported the proposed route of applied/practical research. The most preferred research area was Management techniques applied in New Zealand business with local business as the most common beneficiary. Newspapers were the preferred place of publication. Show less
