Professor Sue Shore
Adjunct Professor, College of Indigenous Futures Education and Arts
Charles Darwin University
Sue's work as adult educator, academic and researcher has been influenced by early employment in hospitality, textile and horticultural businesses to 'get by' before returning to university as a mature age student. There she navigated pathways that were not as seamless as advertised. This, as well as close work with non-government agencies, drives her interest in diverse knowledges as the basis for institutional reform. Her early research on whiteness and theory building took an alternative track to cultural competence, anti-racism and multicultural education, providing practitioners with ways to track ‘mainstream’ practices as mechanisms that can also block pathways from school to work or promotion when building a career. Sue's commitment to ethical research places ethics at the heart of writing research. This requires her, as a writer, to think about how research gets taken up by professionals in education, medical, policing and military systems as well as research training. She is an editorial board member of national and international journals and through this continues a commitment to supporting novice researcher/writers to tell their stories of learning and research.
