Abstract:

The National Board of Employment, Education and Training (NBEET) was established under the Employment, Education and Training Act 1988 to provide the Minister with independent policy advice on matters relating to his portfolio responsibilities. It was augmented by a number of councils including the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the Higher Education Council (HEC). In 1996, the Government introduced legislation to abolish NBEET and its Councils, with the exception of the Australian Research Council and the Higher Education Council.
